Honduras was colonized by the Spaniards after they beat the resistance of the Lenca Indians. The killed Lenca leader ‘Lempira’ still survives as a folk hero, for instance in the national coin that was named after him.

The country is about three times bigger than the Netherlands and has a pleasant tropical climate.

The country is also called the ‘banana republic’, because Honduras was the world’s biggest exporter of bananas in the twenties and thirties.

This country is very versatile and its inhabitants are very open and spontaneous. The highlights of the country are for instance the Maya ruins in Copán, the Pulhapanzák Falls and Lake Yojoa, situated between Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula. We also have to mention the tropical islands Roatán, Guanaja and Utila. Whilst travelling through Honduras you will undoubtedly be impressed by the untouched nature of this wonderful country.
