Deep in the far south of Chile you will find a rough landscape of mountains, glaciers and primeval forests, better known as Patagonia.

Punta Arenas
The most important city here is Punta Arenas. This city, which is the southernmost town on the South American mainland, was in its prime in the time before the Panama channel was opened. Until then all cargo trade between Europe and South America that went over water had to travel through the street of Magelhaen... The street of Magelhaen is the street of water on which the city of Punta Arenas lies. From Punta Arenas you can easily travel to National Park Torres del Paine.

Torres del Paine National Park
This national park is one of the most special and untouched nature reserves in the world and has been added to the UNESCO world heritage list because of its unique flora, fauna and spectacular landscapes. Torres del Paine National Park has a surface area of at least 181.000 hectares. The park has roads for vehicles and paths for hikers. Also in the park; 3 access gates, an administrative centre and seven watch posts. If you want to explore the park differently, you can choose from trekking, horse riding and/or climbing. Your travel specialist is happy to advise you!

Puerto Natales
The town of Puerto Natales is also situated in Chilean Patagonia, around 247 km northwest of Punta Arenas, in the ‘Ultima Esperanza’ (last hope) province.
After many expeditions to ‘explore’ the region, it was given new life after 1870 by Santiago Zamora, also known as ‘Baqueano’ Zamora. He ‘discovered’ the Lake District near Torres del Paine and the wild ‘Baguales’ horses. The English writer and traveller Lady Florence Dixie also wrote extensively about Puerto Natales in this period. Puerto Natales was founded in 1911 as a centre for the sheep industry. At the end of the 20th century the sheep industry declined and many inhabitants have started working in the coal mines ofe Río Turbio in Argentina. These days Puerto Natales is an operation base for many tourists when visiting the Torres del Paine National Park, the Milodon cave, the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park and the Alacalufes Reserve; Cordillera Riesco and Cordillera Sarmiento Singular.

Carretera Austral
The Pan-American 5 is the highway that goes all the way south from Canada to Chile. The road ends at Puerto Montt, the capitol of the Lake District. During Pinochet’s regime an effort was made to build a road even further south, resulting in the Carretera Austral, a mostly unpaved road through one of the most rough and untouched nature reserves in Chile. The landscape is enormously varied. Dense woods are succeeded by clear blue glacier lakes, such as the General Carrera Lake, and majestic mountain tops. In this region you will not find a lot of other people. You can really enjoy the peace and the impressive nature here. This place is an absolute must for those who like to hike. We recommend visiting the ice mass that is the San Rafael glacier.
