Delfin Amazon Cruises in Peru

| Sapa Pana Travel

Imagine taking a boat trip in the morning along the banks of the rivers in the Amazon in search of macaws or sloths. Or how about swimming in a mirror-like lagoon so calm that it seems like a storm is approaching, but instead you will be greeted by the rare pink river dolphins. You can experience this and much more on a cruise through the Peruvian Amazon with Delfin Amazon Cruises.

The Pacaya Samiria Reserve

With Delfin Amazon Cruises you will sail through the pristine and unknown Pacaya Samiria reserve in the Peruvian Amazon. The reserve has 132 species of mammals, 527 species of birds, 120 species of reptiles, 250 species of fish and 1,024 species of plants. For more information about the flora and fauna in the Peruvian Amazon, Delfin Amazon Cruises has drawn up an extensive Wildlife Checklist.

Flora and fauna

Accompanied by highly skilled and passionate guides, you will sail through the reserve and make trips in small boats in the spectacular surroundings. The guides were born and raised in the communities of the Amazon rainforest. This means that they have a lot of knowledge about the history of the Amazon and the different animal and plant species you can find there. Together with your guide you will travel through the Pacaya Samiria Reserve to learn more about the environment. For example, visit the best fishing spot to catch one of the most notorious fish of the Amazon rainforest: the piranha.

In addition to fishing, you can of course also go out and spot other animals. You can go birding, go on night safaris through the Amazon, hike through the jungle, do kayaking and other expeditions. Chances are you will encounter flora and fauna unique to the Amazon and the Pacaya Samiria Reserve during one of these activities.

Tip: Delfin Amazon Cruises has published a reading list of books that take place in and about the Amazon. Interesting to prepare for your journey through the Amazon.

The ships of Delfin Amazon Cruises

Delfin Amazon Cruises has three small-scale ships at its disposal. The capacity varies from 12 to a maximum of 48 people. The cabins are fully equipped with private bathroom and comfortable bed. In addition, the cabins have large windows so you feel as if you are in the middle of the Amazon. On board the ships themselves you can have a great time: you can attend lectures about animal life in the Amazon, enjoy live music, take cooking lessons and relax during a massage.

You can also enjoy Peru's gastronomy on board the cruise ships. In 2018, Delfin Amazon Cruises became part of Relais & Châteaux as the first river cruise. The food served is traditional Peruvian, mostly made with local products from the Amazon and the menu differs per season. You can choose from the best South American wines and finish your evening with a whiskey or Pisco sour.
