A magical animal kingdom
Birds most likely arrived flying, other animals came swimming and reptiles may have come ashore on pieces of wood. Upon arrival, the animals found an environment that was very different from where they came from, with the result that they developed in a different way than their conspecifics on the mainland.

A bird paradise for everyone
This is a true bird paradise for everyone. Not only because of the great diversity of species, but also because you can get so close to them here. Travel specialist Petra said the following: "Personally, I thought I didn't like birds very much, of course I always loved to see toucans, macaws, flamingos and so on, but now that I can get so close to this bird, I find this very special to experience."

Historical looking animals

Iguanas
On the Galapagos, you will undoubtedly encounter an iguana. The marine iguana is an excellent swimmer and it is very funny to see a small head sticking out of the water. Furthermore, there are three kinds of iguanas that live on land; the land iguana, the pink land iguana and the Santa Fe land iguana which, as the name suggests, only occurs on the island of Santa Fe.

Giant tortoises
When the Bishop of Panama discovered the archipelago, the giant tortoises must have been one of the most striking animals on the archipelago, estimated at the time at around 100,000 tortoises. For centuries these animals have been hunted and now there are only about 15,000 of them. Standing face to face with one of these giants is an unforgettable experience.

The main inhabitants of the Galapagos
Upon arrival on one of the islands you will be immediately welcomed by the important inhabitants of the Galapagos; the sea lion. The animals will claim a spot on a bench or sunbathe on the same beach where you want to put down your beach towel, without any problems. While snorkelling, it is possible that a young curious sea lion wants to play with you.
-
The underwater world
The waters around the islands are also rich in wildlife. This is where seven major oceanic currents meet, responsible for an unusual but very impressive underwater world. Sea turtles, sea lions, rays, sharks, seahorses and large schools of coloured fish are only a few examples of what you can see during an afternoon of snorkelling.
