Pagatonia best travel time: October to early May

The best travel time for Patagonia is from October to the beginning of May. The rest of the year it is winter in Patagonia which means lower temperatures and short days. Moreover, there are fewer flights to the south and accommodations are closed.

Good to know: keep 4 seasons in one day in mind

If you want to make a trip to Patagonia, keep in mind that the area is located all the way south. Relatively speaking, not far from Antarctica. Tropical temperatures will not be encountered, but in summer temperatures can be around 25 degrees.

Because of the mountains and the wind coming from Antarctica, the weather can change quickly. Patagonia is also known for an area where you can meet four seasons in one day. For example, in October, spring, Johan once walked around in a t-shirt. While it can happen that in an afternoon in summer you end up in a snow shower. So keep in mind that the weather in Patagonia is never entirely predictable. We therefore recommend that you wear clothing in layers.

Besides the fact that everything is in bloom, it's also a nice period to travel, because it's still quiet in this period. The accommodations you would like to stay in and that we like to work with are available and the flight tickets are generally better priced.

Summer from December to March

In this period it is high season in Argentina and Chile, because the locals also have their own holidays. Summer is undoubtedly a very good time to travel to Patagonia. Because Patagonia has the opposite seasons as we do in the Netherlands, Patagonia is an excellent destination for a trip during our Christmas period. Keep in mind, however, that if you want to travel during this period, you have to start preparing in time. Accommodations are fully booked faster and flight tickets are more expensive. It is best to book a trip to Patagonia for the Christmas holidays up to 8 months in advance.

Autumn in April and early May

These months are not known as the months to travel south. However, we think autumn is an excellent travel time for Patagonia. The days get shorter and especially in the evening it can cool down, but because the wind is often less strong these weeks, it is generally very pleasant during the day. Anke was in Patagonia at the end of April last year and she had lovely and calm weather. The forests were a true colour palette and the light at the glaciers was beautiful.
