The Amazon region captures the imagination. This natural area stretches across large parts of Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana and Suriname. The Amazon region is home to an enormous diversity of flora and fauna, and researchers are still discovering new species. The Amazon with children
Explore the wildlife together in lush, green surroundings. Visiting the Amazon region with your children is highly recommended. Under the guidance of a guide, children will learn more about different species of plants and animals and have the chance to meet communities that still live in the Amazon.

The forest, Suriname
One of the unique places to visit with your children is the Amazon in Suriname. The guides here speak Dutch, making it easy for your children to understand everything. A lovely place to stay overnight is the Kabalebo Nature Resort.

The Amazon region is still home to communities that live according to ancient traditions. We are aware of a number of initiatives run by local communities which allow you, as a traveller, to get to know the Amazon and its inhabitants in a meaningful way, with part of the proceeds going towards protecting the ecosystem.

Cultural riches in Leticia, Colombia
One place where you can get to know the Amazonian cultures is the Reserva Ecológico Mundo Amazónico in Colombia. Accompanied by guides who all come from indigenous communities, you will be taken on a trip through part of the Amazon region.

Luxury Amazon cruises
If you’re looking for a unique Amazon experience, an Amazon cruise comes highly recommended. Two luxury cruises set sail daily from Iquitos in north-eastern Peru along the Amazon River. On board the ship, you’ll have a spacious suite with large windows, and there’s no shortage of luxury and comfort.

The Amazon and the Pantanal
When they hear the word ‘Amazon’, many people immediately think of Brazil. That’s hardly surprising, as this nature reserve covers a vast area of Brazil. Alongside the Amazon, the Pantanal is also one of Brazil’s major nature reserves. If your main aim is to spot wildlife, then the Pantanal is a better choice.

Combine the Amazon with the Pantanal
It is also possible to combine visits to these nature reserves. The Cristalino Lodge is situated in the southern part of the Amazon rainforest, in the transition zone to the Pantanal. This area is home to various plant and animal species found nowhere else.

Hundreds of parrots
It is perhaps one of the most extraordinary experiences the Amazon has to offer. Hundreds of parrots clinging to a clay wall in search of minerals to nourish themselves. The sound, the colours and the fluttering make this a truly spectacular sight.

Napo Wildlife Centre
This beautiful jungle lodge was built and is run by the Añangu Kichwa community. Thanks to this initiative, they can support themselves and no longer need to hunt. What’s more, as a guest, you can learn more about indigenous Amazonian culture, and the members of the indigenous community make for the best guides you could wish for. The peaceful setting allows you to spot plenty of unique wildlife, and your room is spacious and luxuriously furnished.
