The Mashpi lodge is a unique place, located in a cloud forest about a two hour drive from Quito. This area is considered one of the most biodiverse regions in the world and to protect it, the owner Roque Sevilla decided to buy it. Not a single tree has been cut down to build the lodge and every effort has been made to ensure that the lodge has as little harmful impact on the environment as possible. With the proceeds of the lodge, a research centre for biologists is financed, which you can visit. Among other things, the biologists have discovered a new species of frog in this area, a small transparent tree frog, which is now called the 'Mashpi' frog.

This area is considered one of the most biodiverse regions in the world and to protect it, the owner Roque Sevilla decided to buy it. Not a single tree has been cut down to build the lodge and every effort has been made to ensure that the lodge has as little harmful impact on the environment as possible. With the proceeds of the lodge, a research centre for biologists is financed, which you can visit. Among other things, the biologists have discovered a new species of frog in this area, a small transparent tree frog, which is now called the 'Mashpi' frog.
