Without any doubt, Latin-America is the best place for bird wachters. Large specimens with an enormous wingspan and the smallest birds in the world that can flap with their wings up to 80 times a second. The variety in landscape, the Andes that runs through the South American continent on one side and the tropical rainforest on the other make the continent a true bird paradise.

Birding country Colombia
Colombia is the country with the most bird species in the world. No less than 2000 species have been registered. Colombia's wide variety of ecosystems and habitats make it an attractive destination for birds. Places like Minca, Chicaque and El Choco are places known for birding. Hummingbirds, rock cocks and various tanagers are birds that you can encounter here.

Condor and flamingo in the Andes
The Andes mountain range, which stretch across the western side of South America, is home to many wonders, both natural and cultural. Here you will also find special bird species, such as the Condor. This is the largest flying bird in the world with a gigantic wingspan that can be as much as 3 metres. Another special bird that occurs in the Andes is the flamingo.

South America has three large wetlands that provide exuberant and varied flora and fauna due to their alternation of land and water. Because of this variety, many different species of birds also like to come here.

Costa Rica
Not only in South America, but also in the rainforests of Central America you can enjoy yourself as a bird lover. One of the countries is Costa Rica. About 900 different species live in this relatively small country. Costa Rica is a real nature destination and you can combine this with a unique birdwatching trip.

The quetzal bird
A special specimen that only occurs in Central America is the Quetzal bird. With its long feather tail it makes a graceful impression. This bird also has an important role in the culture of Central America. It is the national symbol of Guatemala.

The birds of Ecuador
Due tu its different ecosystems you will also find many bird species in Ecuador. The cloud forest, the Andes, the jungle and the Galapagos are important areas where you can find special bird species. A special place is the Mashpi Lodge in a transitional area of cloud forest and rainforest. Species that are spotted here include toucans, woodpeckers, bearded birds, tanagers, parrots and birds of prey.

The toucan
In the tropical regions of Latin America you can see these birds hidden among the trees. When they fly around you will see a long crooked beak. When coming close the lines of the beak are sharply defined. A curious little bird and typical for Latin America. The Toucan. There are several species, but the best known is the species with the yellow beak, black body and a white bef.

Hundreds of parrots
It is perhaps one of the most extraordinary experiences of the Amazon. Hundreds of parrots hanging from a clay wall in search of minerals to feed themselves. The sound, the colours and the fluttering makes this scene a true spectacle.
