As we mentioned earlier, a trip through both Costa Rica and Nicaragua is a perfect combination of unspoilt nature, adventure activities and a rich culture. Explore Costa Rica’s rainforests, wildlife and beaches, and discover Nicaragua’s colonial towns, volcanoes, lakes and authentic charm.
Costa Rica offers a unique blend of nature and adventure. In Puerto Viejo, you can soak up the vibrant Caribbean culture and surf the perfect waves at Playa Cocles. In La Fortuna, you can marvel at the imposing Arenal volcano and relax in the natural hot springs. In Monteverde’s cloud forest, you can go on an adventurous zip-line ride, gliding like a bird through the treetops of the lush forest. Visit the Osa Peninsula to experience the wild, unspoilt nature of Corcovado National Park, where you might spot jaguars and tapirs, amongst other wildlife. In Tortuguero, you can take a boat trip through the canals and watch sea turtles come ashore. On the Pacific coast, you can enjoy beautiful, often unspoilt beaches, ideal for surfing or relaxing, whilst whale watching from Uvita. Finally, the Rio Celeste will surprise you with its crystal-clear blue waters, perfect for a lovely walk through nature where the colours contrast beautifully against one another.
Nicaragua is a country steeped in history and volcanoes. Discover the charming colonial cities of Granada and León, where colourful streets and a rich history come together and where the colonial architecture has been well preserved. For volcano enthusiasts, sandboarding on the active Cerro Negro volcano is a must, as is a visit to the Masaya volcano, where you can admire the glowing lava flows in the evening. Isla de Ometepe is an island formed by the imposing twin volcanoes Concepción and Maderas, offering unique walks and activities amidst a tranquil island culture. In the Indio Maíz reserve, you can experience unspoilt nature and have the chance to spot wildlife. Enjoy the greenery, the tranquillity and the coffee plantations in Matagalpa. You can round off your trip with some relaxation on the (surf) beaches around San Juan del Sur, or on the tropical Corn Islands, which have a Caribbean atmosphere. Here you’ll find white sandy beaches and crystal-clear blue waters, perfect for snorkelling and unwinding completely.
At Sapa Pana Travel, we have visited both Costa Rica and Nicaragua on numerous occasions, sometimes by rental car and sometimes not.
