Guatemala, an enchanting country, is a treasure trove of history, culture and natural beauty. Guatemalan culture is a vibrant blend of indigenous Mayan traditions and Spanish influences. The colourful markets, traditional dress and centuries-old crafts tell the stories of a people proud of their heritage. In the dense jungles of the north lie the majestic and better-known Mayan temples of Tikal, one of the largest archaeological sites of the ancient Mayan civilisation. Here, towering pyramids rise above the rainforest, a reminder of a rich and mysterious history. Not far from the border with Belize lies Xunantunich, another impressive Mayan complex – as yet unknown to the wider public – renowned for its magnificent stone carvings and views over the surrounding jungle. In brief, the following applies to Guatemala:
- In the upper central part of the country, temperatures are around 20 degrees all year round
- Temperatures in the north, the rainforest, are around 30 degrees all year round
- The dry season runs from November to April
- May sees the start of the rainy season which brings occasional heavy showers
In brief, the following applies to Belize:
- The climate is that of a tropical rainforest, meaning it is warm all year round. Average temperatures range between 27 and 32 degrees.
- The tropical climate results in high humidity
- The rainy season runs from May to October, but even during these months, Belize is a great place to travel around.
