Hiking in Arenal National Park
Arenal National Park is teeming with wildlife and offers plenty of opportunities for adventure. Birdwatching and long walks are the top activities in the park. Walk across the solidified lava and look out over the mighty volcano from El Mirador. Spot toucans and other wildlife as you walk along the endless jungle trails and suspension bridges.

White-water rafting, zip-lining, canyoning, long walks, mountain biking and horse riding are just a few of the activities you can enjoy to explore the inland regions of Costa Rica.

Driving in Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a country that’s ideal to explore by rental car. The distances aren’t great, so you’re never in the car for long. The routes mostly pass through nature reserves and are therefore breathtakingly beautiful. It gives you a real sense of freedom, and you can stop at those beautiful spots to take in even more of the surroundings.

The Lapa Rios Ecolodge is situated in a private reserve near Corcovado National Park in the south of the country. The reserve offers many trails along which you can admire the natural surroundings. Thousands of species of trees and plants, birds, insects and mammals in Central America’s largest remaining tropical lowland forest.

Thanks to Costa Rica’s many beaches, there are also plenty of water-based activities to enjoy. One of these is learning to surf. Whether you’re an experienced surfer or just want to give it a go, anything is possible.

Discover the underwater world
Of course, it’s also possible to go snorkelling in the blue waters. As far as we’re concerned, the best place to do this is in the south of Costa Rica. Here you’ll find a small island called Isla del Caño, where you can enjoy some wonderful snorkelling and see some extraordinary fish.

You’ll be taken to the lodge in spectacular fashion: by rafting down the Pacuare River. On arrival, you’ll be shown to your luxury room and during your stay you can go rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, abseiling, birdwatching, hiking or visit an indigenous Cabécar family.
