Illa Experience Hotel
Situated in the charming San Marcos neighbourhood and just four blocks from the main square, the Illa Experience Hotel offers more than just a place to stay; it immerses you in the culture and traditions of Quito, the capital of Ecuador.
“ Our aim is to portray Quito as it really is: a place full of traditions, authenticity and charm. That is why we share our own traditions with our guests every day. ”
Xavier Rosero, assistant manager at the Illa Experience Hotel
A unique experience in Quito
For us and for our travellers, planning a trip is all about discovering and experiencing the place you’re visiting. The natural surroundings, the culture, the cuisine and the people who live there. The Illa Experience Hotel shares this view. The idea behind their concept is that you are not simply staying in a hotel, but that you are having an authentic experience and getting to know the culture of Quito.

Discover the San Marcos district
The Illa Experience Hotel introduces you to the rich culture and traditions of Quito. The colourful, picturesque streets, the bustling squares and the authentic local atmosphere that pervades the area. The hotel is situated in the San Marcos district. For generations, this district has been home to writers, artists and musicians. This is what gives the neighbourhood its current charm. Neighbours still greet one another in the street and gather in the central square on a warm evening to chat about their day.
Unique experiences
At Illa Experience Hotel, they want you to feel like a true Quiteño, which is why they work closely with local people. During your stay, residents of the San Marcos neighbourhood will take you on a trip to discover special and little-known spots in the neighbourhood and the rest of Quito. You’ll visit a local craftsman who makes hand-carved traditional wooden toys. You’ll stop at the fruit stall for a slice of maracuyá or taxo. Join a watercolour painter who knows the city like the back of his hand, discover the secrets of weaving from an abuela (grandmother), or learn how traditional Ecuadorian ice cream is made. You’ll leave the city feeling like a true Quiteño.
Stay in a historic mansion
The culture and history of Quito are also reflected in the hotel itself. Illa Experience is housed in a historic mansion built in the 17th century. The building is spread over three floors, each of which is inspired by a different historical period. In total, the hotel has four spacious suites and six luxury rooms. The distinctive features of the past are combined with the comforts of the present. Settle into one of the substantial armchairs and enjoy a glass of wine or a mug of hot chocolate. At the end of the day, unwind in the comfortable bath with luxury toiletries from L’Occitane and slip into a warm bed with a hand-embroidered blanket.
The hotel’s restaurant, Nuema, is regarded as one of the most famous restaurants in Ecuador and, just like the rest of your stay, is a truly memorable experience. Chef Alejandro Chamorro takes you on a journey to his roots by using local and traditional produce in his modern Ecuadorian dishes. There is no set menu, as Alejandro creates his dishes based on what the land has to offer at that moment. So let yourself be surprised and enjoy. After a delightful dinner, you can enjoy a cocktail on the roof terrace, with the statue of the Virgin of Quito in the background. To unwind, make use of the spa and wellness centre, equipped with a hot tub, sauna and a range of massage options.
