The most beautiful walk in Central America
In this area you’ll find the ‘Quetzales’ trail, one of the most beautiful walking trails in Central America. You’ll walk across various elevations through a diverse range of plants, trees and bird species, including frequent sightings of the famous quetzal. The area is also home to Costa Rican tapaculos, silver-throated jays, monkeys, sloths and coatis.

Impenetrable rainforest
A visit to Darién and its unspoilt rainforest is an unforgettable experience. The area forms the natural border between Panama and Colombia and is so impenetrable that the Pan-American Highway is abruptly interrupted here. Spend a few days with an indigenous tribe and learn about their culture and customs. Or explore the stunning nature reserve with a private guide. Go in search of rare bird species.

Gamboa Rainforest Resort
Just 30 kilometres from Panama City lies the Gamboa Rainforest Resort. The hotel offers a range of excursions, such as the ‘Aerial Tram’, where you can explore the flora and fauna of this tropical region from a gondola. You can also visit the Emberá Indians, a friendly people who live in small villages. They will be happy to tell you more about the history of their indigenous community, their way of life and their traditions.

El Valle Volcano
El Valle lies within the crater of a large extinct volcano. The volcano erupted with such force 3 million years ago that it formed a crater 5 kilometres in diameter. The volcano has created fertile soil. It will come as no surprise that this place is renowned not only for its beautiful mountainous surroundings, but also for its friendly atmosphere, hot springs, waterfalls and ‘golden’ frogs.

Panama has much to offer not only on its islands and along the coast; the interior is also breathtakingly beautiful and ideal for active travellers. The country boasts several national parks where you can enjoy excellent walking and take in incredibly beautiful views. Visit, for example, the largest rainforest reserve in Central America, Darién. The area forms the natural border between Panama and Colombia and is so impenetrable that the Pan-American Highway is abruptly interrupted here. And as small as the country is, the variety of landscapes is remarkable. For instance, you can combine the stunning rainforest near Darién with the high mountain peaks in the interior of the province of Chiriquí on the same trip. The best-known town here is Boquete, from where you can embark on adventurous activities such as trekking, rock climbing, canopy tours and horse riding. What’s more, Boquete lies at the foot of the Barú volcano, which rises to almost 3,500 metres. If you climb this volcano on a clear day, you’ll be able to see both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
