Salt Flats in Bolivia

From San Pedro de Atacama in northern Chile, you’ll cross the border into the high plains of Bolivia for an unforgettable and breathtaking journey. The landscape, set against a clear blue backdrop, makes this area hugely popular with photographers. During the rainy season, between December and February, there is a chance of a thin layer of water covering the salt flats. This creates a stunning mirror effect.

In the middle of the salt flats, you’ll find a rocky island. Giant cacti can be seen on the island. There are also unusual and fragile coral-like structures and deposits, which often consist of fossils and algae.
