Baños is a small town that is widely known in Ecuador for its miracles. The side corridor of the cathedral is full of crutches of cured patients. The sick are said to have been cured by the water that comes from the thermal springs. Behind Baños lies the Sangay National Park. The volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, erupting ash and lava almost every day. The surroundings of Baños are perfect for adventurous activities such as rafting, climbing, hiking and canoeing. In the village are mountain bikes for rent.

When staying in Cuenca, the Cajas National Park is definitely worth a visit. The picturesque area varies in altitude: 3,100 to 4,450 metres, so you will always have a different beautiful view at every location. The landscape is very varied with no less than 270 lakes, shrubs, forests, grasses looking like our marram grass, valleys and beautiful mountain peaks. A delight for bird lovers, but there is also plenty of entertainment for mountain bikers, hikers, fishermen and mountaineers. In short, a beautiful natural park with something to suit all tastes!

Ecuador is ideal for hiking. Not far from Baños, you will find the Llanganates Mountains. To this day, it is one of the few places in the world that is largely unexplored and unknown. A walk in this area takes you through cloud forest, the Andes forest and heathlands. Along the way, you will have views of surrounding volcanoes and you may spot hummingbirds and deer. The spectacled bear is also found in this area, but is difficult to spot.

Like many other countries in Latin America, you can drive beautiful routes in Ecuador with a rental car. Ready for more adventure? Then get on a mountain bike or a horse and explore the surroundings of the Andes. For example, you can take a mountain bike tour around the Cotopaxi volcano where you follow your way down between the volcanic rocks.
