A mother-and-daughter trip to remember
Amy & Claudia
At the end of a stay in Peru, Amy wanted to spend a few more weeks travelling through South America with me, Claudia (her mum). That sounded like a brilliant plan to me, and after a quick search online, she soon came across Sapa Pana. Roos listened very carefully to our wishes and promptly came up with an absolutely stunning, tailor-made itinerary.

Peru
First part of the trip and a reunion

My trip began with a visit to fascinating cultural and archaeological sites in Peru’s Sacred Valley, guided by a knowledgeable private guide who helped me brush up on my Spanish. This was followed by a two-day trek to the breathtaking city of Machu Picchu, a highlight of the trip. I was reunited with Amy in the charming city of Cusco, where we not only enjoyed the museums, churches and views, but also our special hotel (Inkaterra La Casona), which exuded both a rich history and modern luxury.
After two days, we flew on to Lima. This city is often overlooked by tourists, but as far as we’re concerned, that’s a shame. We found the trendy Barranco district very charming, as was the promenade along the coastline. But for us, the highlight of Lima was the food, from the culinary city trip (breakfast through to dinner in just four hours!) to a unique dinner at Central, voted the world’s best restaurant in 2023!
Ecuador
An adventure in a wooded area
With fond memories, we then left Peru for Ecuador, where we spent two nights in the cloud forest of Mindo (near Quito). The contrast with Lima could hardly have been greater: after a big city, we were now in the middle of a forest. The area is known for its many species of birds, and after visiting a hummingbird garden and a butterfly garden, we developed a new appreciation for these creatures. I also felt a day younger after experiencing ziplining, a waterfall hike and tubing in quick succession. Afterwards, we were able to unwind with a chocolate experience, where we learnt how to make chocolate and were allowed to eat it ourselves.

Galápagos Islands
7-day cruise
Finally, we went on a 7-day cruise around the Galápagos Islands and learnt an awful lot about the flora and fauna of this extraordinary archipelago. And we did so in a very relaxed way, as we were completely looked after on the boat and were able to make the most of the sunshine before returning to the Dutch winter.
It really was an unforgettable trip that we still think back on every day!
Many thanks, Sapa Pana!
