The Carretera Austral
From Santiago, we took a domestic flight to Puerto Montt, where our rental car was waiting for us, and drove to Puerto Varas. From there, we set off on our road trip, with our first stop being Villa la Angostura. This was our starting point for driving along a section of the Carretera Austral to Perito Moreno in Argentina. Along the way, we enjoyed the beautiful views, lakes, forests and snow-capped mountain peaks – too many to mention.
Road trip
We then continued our road trip in Chile, following the Carretera Austral. Near Puerto Guadal, we visited the Marble Caves, which once again offered stunning natural scenery. Another highlight was our visit to the Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa, which was well worth the visit. From Caleta Gonzalo, we took the ferry to Hornopiren. The weather was lovely and calm, so we were able to enjoy a fantastic crossing.
Our road trip ended in Puerto Varas; the next day, we flew back to Santiago via Puerto Montt. We then drove a rental car to the Colchagua wine region to relax for a few days and take in all our experiences.
