Day 3 | Montevideo – Colonia

(approx. 190 km | 3-hour drive)
After breakfast, a rental car will be waiting for you to explore the rest of Uruguay over the coming days. Today, you’ll drive along the stunning coastline to Colonia in around 3 hours. You’ll be staying at the Charco Hotel. Here, they strive for perfection down to the very last detail. The rooms are very spacious and feature a sophisticated design. Combine this with the stunning views of the river, the pleasant atmosphere and the professional staff, and you’re guaranteed a very enjoyable stay. Be captivated by the beauty of the colonial town of Colonia del Sacramento, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. Here, it feels as though you’ve stepped back in time to the seventeenth century. The town centre is a melting pot of typical Portuguese and Spanish low-rise architecture. The narrow streets are irregularly paved with cobblestones of varying sizes. Enjoy a drink here on one of the cosy terraces, climb the town’s ‘Faro’, a 19th-century lighthouse, and round off your day with a stunning sunset on the pier.

Day 5 | Colonia – Carmelo

(approx. 90 km | 2-hour drive)
A new day, a new place. Today you’ll drive to Carmelo, about 2 hours west of Colonia del Sacramento. The peaceful surroundings of Carmelo boast stunning natural beauty and are internationally renowned for their vineyards and bodegas. It is an excellent place to explore the area by bike and enjoy the occasional glass of wine. You’ll be staying at Narbona Wine Lodge, which dates back to 1909. The atmosphere here is unique and special, and you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped back in time to simpler days gone by. The estate even still features original vehicles and agricultural machinery from that era. Unique black-and-white photographs in the just five boutique hotel rooms give you a good impression of Narbona’s rich history. In the evening, enjoy the fantastic, unpretentious farmhouse cuisine served by the restaurant. Think colourful salads, soups, local cured meats, homemade pasta and many more delicacies. Day 8 | Pueblo Edén

Today, enjoy a cycling excursion to Altos de la Ballena, the first winery to begin producing what are now known as ‘Oceanic Wines’. After the tasting, you’ll continue on to the Vinã Edén vineyards, situated on the cliffs of Pueblo Edén. In this exceptional setting, the wines combine the climate of the hills with the freshness of the Atlantic Ocean. Here you will enjoy a wine tasting and a light lunch, whilst looking out over the vineyards

Day 9 | Pueblo Edén – Mariscala

(approx. 100 km | 2-hour drive)
Today you’ll continue your journey to the Mariscala area. At the end of the route, you’ll arrive at your accommodation, situated in a hilly area, just a few minutes’ drive from the town of Mariscala.

Day 10 | Mariscala

Today you’ll have time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Mariscala. You can go on lovely walks or horse rides here, experiencing the true rural atmosphere of Uruguay. Of course, you’re also free to explore the area at your own pace in your rental car.

Day 11 | Mariscala – José Ignacio

(approx. 520 km | 2.5-hour drive)
Today you’ll be driving back towards the coast of Uruguay, to the town of José Ignacio. José Ignacio owes its name to the settler of the same name who lived there during the Spanish conquest. In José Ignacio, you’ll find what’s known as ‘barefoot luxury’, far from the city. In this region, enjoyment is written in capital letters! The locals in José Ignacio stay up late, enjoy themselves with family and friends on the beach and are very friendly.

Day 14 | José Ignacio – Punta del Este

(approx. 50 km | 1-hour drive)
Today’s itinerary includes a short drive to Punta del Este. Punta del Este is a popular destination in Uruguay. It is also known as the St Tropez of South America, thanks to its stunning beaches, beautiful hotels and excellent restaurants and shops. You’ll drive into the town along a beautiful boulevard lined with palm trees. Here you’ll also find the harbour with its stunning luxury yachts. You’ll be staying at Fasano Las Piedras, designed by the world-famous architect Isay Weinfeld. The location couldn’t be more perfect: close to the nightlife, yet also near the beaches of La Barra.

Day 16 | Punta del Este – Montevideo – Amsterdam

Today, your Unique Journey through Uruguay sadly comes to an end. You will drive to Montevideo Airport (approx. 120 km | 2-hour drive), where you will return your rental car. At the airport, you’ll board your intercontinental flight to Amsterdam, where you’ll arrive the following day.
