You are about to make a great journey! This individual tour through Uruguay will take you to Uruguayan farm life and the coast where you can relax. You will arrive in Buenos Aires where you will get to know the vibrant city. From here you will take the ferry to Uruguay. You will receive a rental car with which you will drive through the Uruguayan landscape the coming days. Travel itinerary

Day 1: Amsterdam - Buenos Aires

Your Unique Journey through Uruguay starts today. You will board your intercontinental flight to Buenos Aires in Amsterdam in the evening. You will arrive here the next day.

Day 2: Buenos Aires

You arrive in Buenos Aires today. Upon arrival you will be welcomed by our local staff and brought to your hotel. Buenos Aires is a beautiful metropolis also known as 'the Paris of the South'. This is because of its numerous shops and boutiques, architecture, cultural life, restaurants and its cosmopolitan population of mainly Italian, Spanish, French, German, English, Eastern European, Arabic and Asian origins. The city is one of the most European of South America and of the entire southern hemisphere. Today you have the opportunity to get to know the city better.

Day 3: Buenos Aires

Today you will be taken along the most important sights of the fascinating Argentine capital in a special way. Under the guidance of a guide and on shared basis (together with other tourists) you will make a bicycle tour through different districts of the city.

Day 4: Buenos Aires - Colonia del Sacremento

After breakfast you will be picked up at your hotel and taken to the port of Buenos Aires, where you will board your ferry to Colonia. Once here you will be welcomed by a local staff member and taken to your hotel in Colonia. The rental car for the coming days will be delivered at the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Colonia del Sacremento, in short Colonia, is a melting pot of typical Portuguese and Spanish low buildings from the seventeenth century. Stroll through the streets and feel like you have ended up in the past. You will stay in the Charco hotel with only 7 rooms decorated in colonial style.

Day 5: Colonia del Sacremento

Today you have a day-off. A nice moment to see more of the historic center of Colonia. Walk through the streets paved with uneven cobbled cobblestones. Around you, you will see an interesting mix of Portuguese and Spanish low buildings and only the 'Faro', the lighthouse, rises up here like a landmark. It is highly recommended to climb this lighthouse and enjoy the beautiful view over the colonial center at the top. The center has many nice terraces and good eateries for lunch and dinner. Tip: end your day with a walk to the pier. By dusk you will have a beautiful sunset here.

Day 6: Colonia del Sacremento - Mariscala

(approx. 350 km | 4.5 hour drive)
After breakfast you get in the rental car and drive to Mariscala. You will drive a route through the inlands of Uruguay. Enjoy the tranquility and rural surroundings along the way. You can stop wherever you want. It is also possible to take a route further inland passing the town of Durazno, Spanish for peach. As the name suggests, many peaches are grown in this region. The accommodation where you will stay is located in a hilly area, a few minutes drive from the town of Mariscala. The charming and comfortable Posada El Balcon del Abra has only 8 rooms. Here you can make beautiful walks by foot or go horseback riding experiencing the real rural feeling of Uruguay.

Day 7: Mariscala

Enjoy the beautiful surroundings today! From your accommodation you can participate (for a fee) in various activities such as kayaking or cycling where you will experience the real rural feeling of Uruguay. Of course you can also go out exploring by yourself with your rental car.

Day 8: Mariscala - Rocha

(approx. 150 km | 2.5 hour drive)
Today you will drive to Rocha, your next destination on this individual tour through Uruguay. Here you will stay on an Estancia that is still in full operation. At the Estancia you will be able to contribute to the traditional agricultural activities or watch the gauchos do their work. The surroundings are also beautiful to discover. You can go hiking, fishing, canoeing on the lagoon and/or go horseback riding. This area is also known for the many birds that can be spotted here. You will not be bored here.

Day 9: Rocha

In the morning you will drive with your rental car towards the entrance of Cabo Polonio. Here your guide will be waiting for you to take you to a special place. Cabo Polonio is a charming fishing village that can only be reached by foot, horseback or with special four-wheel drive. Here, in Uruguay's largest biosphere reserve, there are still a few families living without electricity. With endless white ocean beaches, the largest colony of sea lions in the world, the colored houses and the lighthouse as a landmark, this is a unique place to visit. Your guide will take you on a walk to the impressive sand dunes from where you have a fantastic view of the ocean. In one of the small restaurants a lunch is waiting for you. Visit the lighthouse house, greet the sea lions and take a 4x4 ride through the dunes that will take you back to the entrance of the village. From here you can drive back to your hotel on your own.

Day 10: Rocha - José Ignacio

(approx. 120 km | 2 hour drive)
Today you drive to José Ignacio on the coast of Uruguay. José Ignacio owes her name to the settler with the same name who lived there in times of the Spanish conquest. In José Ignacio you will find so-called 'barefoot luxury', far from the city. Enjoyment is written in capital letters in this region! The inhabitants of José Ignacio sleep late, enjoy themselves with family and friends on the beach and are very friendly. You will stay in the beautiful accommodation Bahia Vik, in a pristine dune area just outside the village. Here you can make beautiful beach walks and enjoy the view of the ocean. The rooms have an open architecture and are decorated in such a way that you can enjoy the view over the beach and the ocean at all times.

Day 11: José Ignacio

This day is scheduled off. A good time to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Activities here are endless, from surfing, swimming, paddle boards, tennis, golf, horse riding, cycling, kite surfing, kayaking, canoeing or astronomical observatory to just lounging with a book at one of the pools or on the beach.

Day 12: José Ignacio - Montevideo

(approx. 175 km | 3 hour drive)
From José Ignacio you drive to Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. At the hotel you drop off your rental car and have the rest of the day at leisure. Montevideo has a similar atmosphere as Buenos Aires, but the city is smaller and more convenient. The city has a historic center and a promenade where you can cycle along the water. You will stay in the Alma Historica hotel. The hotel is located in a restored palace from 1900. With only 15 rooms, the hotel offers you an exclusive experience.

Day 13: Montevideo

After breakfast you will be picked up at your hotel for a city tour. Under the guidance of a guide you will get acquainted with the history of the city and the country. You will visit various buildings and your guide will provide you with the necessary background information. From here you will be taken to the lively port market where several restaurants are located. This port market is mainly about good Asado meat and red wine. If desired, you can visit some of the city's museums. After the tour you will be brought back to your hotel.

Day 14: Montevideo - Amsterdam

Unfortunately, Your Unique Journey comes to an end today. You will be taken to Montevideo airport where you will board the intercontinental flight to Amsterdam. 

Day 15: Amsterdam

Today you will arrive at Schiphol Airport.
