David on the Aqua Mare Cruise
“ Last February, the time had finally come! ”
For a very long time, I’ve wanted to visit the enchanting Galápagos Islands, situated far out in the Pacific Ocean, some thousand kilometres from the Ecuadorian coast. This archipelago of volcanic islands is renowned for its unique biodiversity and unspoilt beauty, making it a dream destination not only for me as a nature lover, but also for other adventurers from all over the world.
The Aqua Mare
Last February, the time had finally come! We sailed past various islands on the Aqua Mare, a luxury private yacht that can accommodate 16 passengers. During our journey, we crossed the equator twice.
Charles Darwin’s groundbreaking theories on evolution
The Galápagos Islands are a world apart, where time seems to stand still and nature reigns supreme. It is the place where the legendary explorer Charles Darwin developed his groundbreaking theories on evolution, inspired by the unique flora and fauna of this remote archipelago. He was able to spend no less than five weeks here; now I could follow in his footsteps and come face to face with unspoilt natural wonders. Giant tortoises graze peacefully on land, marine iguanas swim in crystal-clear waters and, my favourites of all, the blue-footed boobies steal the show.
Daily activities
We also had the chance to go snorkelling every day. As well as colourful fish, we saw stingrays and even sharks; we swam with curious sea lions and walked amongst colonies of fearless seabirds. Every encounter with these incredible animals is, time and again, an unforgettable experience that enriches the spirit.
Knowledgeable guides on board
My fellow travellers and I were able to enjoy spectacular views during interesting walks ashore. We learnt a great deal about the geological history and ecology of the islands thanks to our two knowledgeable guides, both of whom are also official park rangers, dedicated to the conservation and preservation of this beautiful national park. The archipelago’s fragile ecosystem is under threat from invasive species, climate change and human activities, making it crucial to promote responsible tourism and protect the islands’ natural resources for future generations.
A trip to the Galápagos leaves a lasting impression and creates memories that will last a lifetime.
All in all: an unforgettable travel experience and highly recommended!
