David Gil Gil
in Spain, raised in the Netherlands and now living in Chile, I can truly call myself a citizen of the world. After completing a pilot training course at NHTV and working in the local business sector for several years, I decided to set sail in 2004.
As an international host on board the world’s most famous cruise lines, I was able to put my language skills to excellent use. Eventually, I ended up in ‘the last country’ in the world. It was in Chile that I met my current partner, and since 2008 we have been living in the town of Puerto Varas, situated in the Lake District. A picturesque little town tucked away amongst parks and volcanoes, well worth a visit.
With over 15 years’ experience in tourism now, I’ve had the opportunity to visit various countries across South America and the Caribbean. I can’t really single out one country as my favourite, though Chile is, of course, one of them. This is thanks to its contrasting landscapes, culture and the wide variety of activities available across its many regions. Personally, I really love road trips and seeking out adventure ‘off the beaten track’, so the Carretera Austral is one I would wholeheartedly recommend.
