Itinerary
Day 1 | Amsterdam – Mexico City
Your culinary trip begins today. You’ll depart from Amsterdam on an international flight to Mexico City. Once you arrive, you’ll be met by one of our local staff and taken to your accommodation. In the evening, you’ll enjoy a gourmet dinner accompanied by Mexican wines or matching craft beers – the choice is yours. You’ll be taken to one of the city’s most artistic and vibrant neighbourhoods: La Roma. Here, you’ll enjoy a delicious four-course Mex-fusion dinner with a seasonal twist.

Day 2 | Mexico City
After breakfast, your private guide will collect you for a food trip of the Colonia Roma neighbourhood. During this gastronomic adventure, enjoy the traditional flavours of Mexico, from pre-Spanish dishes to contemporary culinary creations. You’ll explore the main Aztec market, have a drink in a typical cantina and sample some street food. As you stroll around, you’ll discover various local eateries and gain an understanding of what makes Mexico so special from a culinary perspective.

Day 3 | Mexico City
Immerse yourself in the rich culinary traditions of Mexican cuisine during this interactive cookery workshop, which begins with a visit to a bustling local market. You’ll stroll past colourful stalls brimming with fresh produce, fragrant spices, regional chillies and traditional ingredients, whilst learning more about the flavours that characterise Puebla’s world-famous cuisine. After the market visit, you’ll get to work alongside a local chef during an interactive cooking session. You’ll prepare authentic dishes using traditional techniques and fresh, local ingredients. Discover the stories and cultural influences behind Mexico’s culinary pride, and then enjoy the delicious meal you’ve helped to prepare.

Day 4 | Mexico City – Puebla
Today you’ll travel on to Puebla with your English-speaking private guide. You can make a few stops along the way if you wish. In Puebla, you’ll stay in charming accommodation. Puebla is surrounded by the Popocatépetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes and snow-capped mountain peaks, and boasts no fewer than 70 churches in its historic centre. The city was founded by the Spanish, and to this day many Spanish influences can still be seen, such as the colonial architecture and the painted ceramics.

Day 5 | Puebla
Today you’ll explore the historic centre of Puebla, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of the key highlights include the famous Capilla del Rosario, with its Mexican Baroque architecture and 23-carat gold leaf decoration throughout the church, as well as the magnificent Palacio Nacional and the Zócalo (the central square). At the end of this culturally rich day, you can sit back and relax. Why not try an ‘agua fresca’, a typical Mexican drink made with cold water and fresh fruit flavours?

Day 6 | Puebla – Oaxaca
In the morning, your private driver will collect you and take you to your next destination: Oaxaca. Once you arrive at your hotel, you can freshen up, and then it’s time to explore the historic centre of Oaxaca. You’ll learn more about the city’s cultural heritage during a visit to the city’s cultural museum. Here you’ll find an impressive exhibition of the treasures discovered in one of the tombs at the Monte Albán archaeological site. If time and interest allow, you will also visit the Art of Oaxaca and Quetzalli art galleries. You’ll have the chance to sample some of Oaxaca’s regional specialities, such as hot chocolate and grasshoppers. The evening is yours to spend as you wish.

Day 7 | Oaxaca
Today you’ll visit the village of Teotitlan del Valle, a pretty village on the eastern side of the valley. Here you’ll find a remarkable church housing authentic 16th-century artefacts. On arrival in Teotitlan del Valle, you’ll visit the market. Afterwards, you’ll visit a local family’s home to see how they make traditional woven rugs. Many still use the traditional techniques of carding and spinning their own wool, which is then dyed with natural colours before finally being woven on solid wooden looms. You will then enjoy a regional cookery class and lunch, during which you will be a guest in the home of a Zapotec family. During the cookery class, they will share their cooking techniques and secrets with you. The Oaxaca region is renowned as the most traditional and authentic in the country. At the end of the afternoon, you’ll return to your accommodation in Oaxaca and have the evening at your leisure.

Day 8 | Oaxaca
Discover the historic centre of Oaxaca. Lined with narrow streets and colonial buildings, it boasts a vibrant arts and music scene and an abundance of high-quality restaurants. Oaxaca produces a wide variety of handicrafts and boasts countless markets and specialist shops offering unique creations. There are also various activities to enjoy in the area around Oaxaca. For example, visit the ruins of Monte Albán and Mitla, or explore the small, picturesque villages in the surrounding area.

Day 9 | Oaxaca
Today you’ll travel through the colourful craft villages of Oaxaca, where centuries-old traditions and craftsmanship come together. You’ll visit Ocotlán, where indigenous culture is still very much alive. You’ll then travel to San Martín Tilcajete, famous for its exquisite alebrijes – hand-carved, colourful wooden figures. In San Bartolo Coyotepec, you’ll discover the ancient art of black pottery whilst watching local artisans at work. The day ends in Santo Tomás Jalieza, known for its rich textile traditions, where you’ll admire hand-woven fabrics and beautiful embroidery.

Day 10 | Oaxaca – Puerto Escondido
After breakfast, you will be taken to your next and final destination: Puerto Escondido, a laid-back coastal town on Mexico’s Pacific coast.
Days 11 to 13 | Puerto Escondido
These days are yours to spend as you wish. Puerto Escondido is a paradise for nature and adventure lovers. Surf the legendary waves of Zicatela, relax on secluded beaches, swim in bioluminescent waters or enjoy fresh fish at a beachside restaurant. Savour this laid-back coastal destination where rugged natural beauty and authentic Mexican charm come together.

Day 14 | Puerto Escondido – Mexico City – Amsterdam
Your culinary trip of Mexico comes to an end today. You will be collected from your hotel and taken to the airport, from where you will fly via Mexico City to Amsterdam.
Day 15 | Amsterdam
You’ll be arriving in Amsterdam today.
