The many facets of a trip of Patagonia
A trip of Patagonia is a journey you’ll never forget. This is particularly due to the breathtaking landscapes, but Patagonia has much more to offer. It’s a paradise for nature lovers, but adventurers will also find plenty to enjoy here. One of the most famous trekking areas is Torres del Paine, but don’t forget El Chaltén either – a perfect base for several hiking routes and home to Mt Fitz Roy. This mountain, with its steep granite faces, is one of Patagonia’s icons. Patagonia is also home to several spectacular glaciers, a number of which are situated in Los Glaciares National Park. The most famous is the Perito Moreno, where visitors can frequently see and hear ice calving, and witness large chunks of ice breaking off and falling into the water.
During a trip of Patagonia, you can admire an abundance of wildlife, including sea lions, penguins and guanacos. Along the coastline, you’ll see orcas, humpback whales and dolphins, amongst others. Spotting a puma is a rare experience. They are shy and often active at night, though there are specific areas where the puma is sometimes seen during the day as well. Some of these areas can be found in Torres del Paine National Park, where specialist guides are available to maximise your chances of spotting a puma.
Patagonia is also the departure point for several cruises. Not only do cruises to Antarctica set sail from Southern Patagonia, but there are also a number of cruises that take you to the most remote areas of Patagonia. On such a cruise, you’ll explore the unspoilt wilderness of Patagonia, with its hidden glaciers, picturesque fjords, sheer cliffs, ice-capped mountains and remote, uninhabited islands.
