Travel itinerary

Day 1: Amsterdam - Lima

Your unique journey through Peru starts today. You will fly from Amsterdam to the Peruvian capital Lima and will be brought to your hotel upon arrival. You will stay at the Belmond Miraflores Park hotel, located in one of the most fashionable and hip neighbourhoods of Lima. Let yourself be pampered this evening by the friendly staff. After the long flight, relax with a moisturizing facial massage at the spa and enjoy an exceptional dinner with a magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean. End your evening with a tasty cocktail and dive into your comfortable bed for a good night's rest.

Day 2: Lima

Start your morning well in Lima with a delicious breakfast buffet in the hotel restaurant. After that you will be taken on a discovery tour through the Peruvian capital. Lima has a rich history that you will not miss during this city tour. Your private guide will take you to Plaza Mayor, for a visit to the Palace of Justice, the Council House and the San Francisco Church. Then you will also visit the more modern districts of the city, such as San Isidro and the district where you will be staying, Miraflores. The afternoon is at leisure. Did you know that Lima is also called the culinary capital of Latin America? It is certainly a must to enjoy the culinary highlights. The most famous and delicious fish dish of Peru is 'Ceviche'; raw fish in lime juice.

Day 3: Lima - Sacred Valley

At the end of the morning you will be taken to the airport and fly to Cuzco, from where a private transfer will take you to your hotel in the Sacred Valley. The Sacred Valley was the center of the Inca civilization, a fertile environment with green agricultural terraces surrounded by impressive mountains. Your hotel Belmond Rio Sagrado is located on the banks of the Urubamba River. A perfect base from which you can get to know this beautiful area. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure. Enjoy the sensational dishes in the restaurant or a local Sacred Valley massage.

Day 4: Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu

It is early in the morning and you look out over the Sacred Valley shrouded in fog. The view is breath-taking. Enjoy a scenic drive through the stunning landscape. In the picturesque village of Ollantayambo the ride with the luxurious Belmond Hiram Bingham train, named after the discoverer of the Machu Picchu, starts. As the stunning views pass by, you will enjoy classic local flavours and gourmet dishes. Later in the morning, when most visitors are already on their way back, you will arrive in peace and quiet at the special Inka citadel. Enjoy the guided tour by your private guide and let yourself be charmed by the magical stories that are told to you. A visit to this hidden city undoubtedly leaves a deep impression. In the evening you will travel by Hiram Bingham train back to Ollantaytambo. On the way you will be spoiled again with an exquisite dinner on board. After arrival in Ollantaytambo you will be brought back to your hotel.

Day 5: Sacred Valley

A new day in the enchanting Sacred Valley is waiting for you. Wander around the colourful garden of the hotel, join a yoga session in the refreshing outdoors, take a dip in the pool or read an exciting book in the hammock. Are you ready to explore the surroundings? Hire a bike and ride along the paths of the Andes or saddle up your horse and go out with a guide. Also a visit to the colourful market of Pisac and the salt flats of Maras is worthwhile. In the evening a fire basket burns on the terrace of the El Huerto restaurant while delicious dishes are prepared with fresh ingredients from the vegetable garden. A good pisco sour under the magical starry sky is a perfect way to end your day.

Day 6: Sacred Valley - Cuzco

From the Sacred Valley you will drive to the mythical and lively city of Cuzco. A city rich in history that will surprise even the most spoiled traveller. Red tiled roofs, whitewashed walls and the green and gold of the mountains with behind them the wide blue sky. In 1533 Cuzco was invaded by the Spaniards, so you will find the beautiful architecture of the Incas next to the Renaissance architecture everywhere. Sometimes even literally in the same place. One of the most popular sights of the city is the famous Inca stone of twelve corners, which is part of a wall in the palace of the Archbishop of Cuzco. There is also no lack of cosines here. It is filled with nice little cafes and good coffee restaurants. Wander around the narrow streets of the city today and feel the magical energy.

Day 7: Cuzco

Once upon a time... This morning you wake up in a real fairy tale. Belmond Hotel Palacio Nazarenas, built on the Inca foundations, combines its special history with modern comfort and service in an enchanting environment. Start your day well with a delicious breakfast with fresh products from the hotel's garden. Then let your private guide take you through the beautiful city. Cuzco comes from the Quechua word "Cosqo", which means "Navel of the World". From this place the Incas founded their mighty empire Tahuantisuyu, "Land of the Four Winds". The city is full of even more stories that the guide will tell you with great pride and enthusiasm. The afternoon is free to spend the way you wish. Day 8: Cuzco - Puno

In the morning you board the Belmond Andean Explorer train. Take a seat in your own luxury compartment and relax while the train starts its journey to Puno. Amazing landscapes will pass you as you sit back in your comfortable seat and look out the window. In the afternoon, lunch is served in one of the elegant restaurant compartments. Enjoy refined Andes specialties served with flair. Afterwards, get off the train for a visit to Raqchi. Once an important checkpoint for the Incas, today a fascinating archaeological site. You will board the train again and before joining for a delicious dinner, you will enjoy a sensational sunset, where the sun disappears behind the La Raya Mountains.

Day 9: Puno - Arequipa

Get up early in the morning for a breathtaking sunrise at Lake Titicaca. During breakfast, dream a little further of this beautiful sight and get ready for yet another day full of pleasant surprises. You will take a traditional boat trip to the famous Uros islands, handmade islands made of reed plants. The Uros Indians live here, who like to show you their way of life. You sail further to the island Taquile, which is known for its agricultural terraces. The woven fabrics of the traditional community that lives here are considered to be the best in Peru. You will have lunch on Cotalla beach, after which you will get a performance by local dancers and artists. Once back at the station an afternoon tea will be served and the train will continue its route to Arequipa.

Day 10: Arequipa - Colca Canyon

Enjoy a good breakfast before heading out in the early morning for an excursion to Lake Lagunillas and its magical surroundings. Later you will visit the Sumbay Caves, famous for its fascinating murals. Back on the train there will be a delicious lunch waiting for you and the train will take you to Arequipa. Upon arrival in the white city, a driver and guide will be waiting for you and will take you to your hotel in the Colca Canyon. A hidden treasure in the Andes. The surroundings of the Colca Canyon are impressive and so is the hotel in which you will stay. In the Belmond Las Casitas del Colca the hectic of every day seems light years away. Relax in the pool, recharge yourself in the spa or read a good book in the beautiful garden that surrounds the hotel.

Day 11: Colca Canyon

Wake up in the amazing nature of the Colca Canyon. Have a coffee with your breakfast and look out over the immense gorge from the restaurant terrace. This morning you will go out with a guide to spot condors. The gorge is the habitat of the condor. They fly through the gorge, usually in the morning and evening. In the meantime, they are looking for food in more distant areas. Sometimes they fly about five meters away, over you. You have the rest of the afternoon at leisure. There's plenty to do to fill this afternoon.

Day 12: Colca Canyon - Arequipa - Lima - Amsterdam

Unfortunately, your unique journey is over. In the morning you will be driven to Arequipa airport from where you will fly to Lima. Here you will take a connecting flight to Amsterdam, where you will arrive the next morning.

Day 13: Amsterdam

Today your plane will arrive at Schiphol Airport.
