Patagonia in Chile is a paradise for nature lovers, adventurers and anyone looking to get away from it all. This region, in the south of Chile, is best known for its breathtaking landscapes and diverse flora and fauna. One of the absolute highlights is Torres del Paine National Park. This park is home to majestic mountain ranges, glistening glaciers and deep-blue lakes. The W Trek is a famous hiking route that takes you past iconic landmarks such as the granite towers, the Cuernos del Paine, and the spectacular Grey Glacier. Puerto Natales serves as the gateway to many adventures in Patagonia, including trips to Torres del Paine National Park. Another ‘must-do’ is the Carretera Austral, a scenic road that winds its way through unspoilt wilderness and picturesque villages. Along this route lies, amongst other attractions, the beautiful Queulat National Park, known for the Ventisquero Colgante hanging glacier. Finally, don’t miss the Marble Caves, a natural wonder on Lake General Carrera. These colourful marble caves have been shaped by centuries of erosion and offer a surreal experience.

Chilean Patagonia also serves as the starting point for a journey to Antarctica. Expeditions to the icy continent depart from the port city of Punta Arenas. The journey to Antarctica usually begins with a flight or cruise, during which you’ll have the chance to spot wildlife such as whales and penguins. Even without visiting Antarctica, it is possible to go on excursions to see, for example, the king penguin in Parque Pinguino Rey. It is not only cruises to Antarctica that depart from Southern Patagonia; there are also a number of cruises that take you to the most remote areas of Patagonia. On such a cruise, you’ll explore the unspoilt wilderness of Patagonia, with its hidden glaciers, picturesque fjords, sheer cliffs, ice-capped mountains and remote, uninhabited islands.
